The Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary story | ‘Purpose’

Sara and Gary run Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary. A precious reserve for rescued, orphaned and wild native Australian animals. Their specialty is injured and orphaned macropods – kangaroos, wallabies, wallaroos etc.

On New Years Eve 2019, bushfires raged throughout the South Coast of NSW, with Cobargo being one of the worst hit. It was totally flattened – completely obliterated by what was described as an unprecedented ‘fire tornado’.

Property and lives were lost without discrimination.

Sara and Gary were in Tasmania at the time and returned the next day to what can only be described as a scene out of your worst nightmare. Nothing could have prepared them.

The house, home and all their possessions were gone – burnt to ash. Everything they held close to their hearts gone. Worst of all, the kangaroo mob, many wild, but many of which they’d raised by hand and released had all perished. Trapped by fire on all sides with no possible means of escape.

We traveled there with Green Heroes to see what help we could offer. Both on the ground and as part of an ongoing relationship.

‘Purpose’ tells their story.

They’ve been overwhelmed by support from all over the globe, but still need help. If you’d like to donate, get in touch with them via their facebook page Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary or if you would like to sponsor a joey directly through your school or preschool head to the

Humans of Hutchies ep. 1 | An uncommon role in an unexpected industry

Meet Alan.

Undoubtably one of the most caring, genuine people you’ll come across. Everyone I spoke to during the research for this piece remarked similarly.

He said in our time together:

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”

Alan’s role is unheard of within the construction industry and inspiring leadership brought it to fruition. This is part of the ‘Humans of Hutchies’ film series for Hutchinson Builders
