looking back, looking forward and georgina and rhys

~ looking back ~

if I was one for penning new years resolutions, on 1st january 2012 there’s no way I could have wished for a better year. it has been something special.

I could go on and on about it but I’d rather be brief. I have met so many special people, witnessed so many inspiring moments, and been let into so many families celebrations.

I’ve worked hard and grown a lot. I’ve also been constantly reminded how fortunate I am – it is something I don’t take for granted.

~ looking forward ~

as I look through my diary for 2013 I can’t wait for what’s on the horizon. I have one more wedding to shoot for 2012 and after that I’m taking an extended hiatus. it’s time to step back, rest, reassess a few things, and to reconnect.

a huge thank you for all of your support through this year. I wish you, your families and loved ones a very safe and happy festive season.

~ georgina and rhys ~

on christmas eve 2011 rhys proposed to georgina. shortly after that she contacted me and checked what dates I had available. I knew I had to be a part of it.

their day was immaculately styled, beautifully warm, and overflowing with reminders of the importance of family relationships.

I can’t think of any better way to finish the year than sharing their wedding film with you.

I loved it.

christine and paul and isaac and ethan / belongil + deux belettes

I’m thinking back and reflecting…

it was just the 4 of them for the entire day – christine, paul and the boys isaac and ethan. just hanging out. no rigid schedule to follow, just a loose plan.

they overcame many obstacles to make it happen exactly as they wanted. not the least of all a last minute venue and date change, but happen it did. and it was perfect

wonderfully intimate and genuine, vulnerable and crazy at times, original and inspiring, full of laughter, heartfelt promises and yes, plenty of tears. everyone involved couldn’t help but be moved.

I cannot thank you enough for letting me in to a most special of days to share it with you.

I’m thinking back and reflecting…

and I am happy.

tamika and shaun / tweed coast hinterland highlights

I alternated between crying and laughter putting the edit from tamika and shaun’s day together.

It’s tough editing with tears in your eyes.

for real.

a deux belettes wedding film / allissa and grant

for me, part of growing/improving/evolving what I do is to reflect back on work I’ve done, and taking the time to look at could have been improved on.

would I compose my shots differently?

would I be in alternative places at certain times of the day?

and one of the biggest…would I make different editing decisions?

on occasions I’ve wondered what it would be like to revisit a wedding some time on and see how different the result would be.

I guess this is as close as I could ever get to finding out.

allissa and grant were married almost one year ago to the day at the magnificent deux belettes. their highlights film was one of the most touching pieces I’ve put together and also one of the most viewed.

the cards all fell into place to revisit their wedding story when allissa looked into the possibility of a feature film edit as a surprise first anniversary gift for grant (and themselves)

as I went back through the footage and moments from this beautiful day.

there’s not a thing I would change.

not. a. thing.

jon and crystal / mavis’ kitchen highlights

it rained and rained and just kept on raining. and then it rained some more. the wettest wedding I’ve ever been a part of. ben and I even got rained in for a couple of hours at the end of the evening with a flooded causeway.

mother nature ended up being a very small player on the day though.

plan ‘b’ was in place. as the scenario changed, the ceremony was moved and umbrellas were brought out. family, friends and everyone involved pitched in and made magic happen. hell, at the last minute I even gave crystal’s dad my belt to wear for half the day.

everyone adapted and came together for this wonderful, intimate celebration.

crystal and jon – you and your day inspired me.

it’s been said many times but the wet knot that jon’s dad tied is indeed harder to undo.
